Their toys are in the Montreal Biodome!

20th International Contest Featuring Toys Made from Reused Materials (ICFT)

Over 200 toys have been collected from 10 countries (Canada, Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, United States, Haiti, Honduras, Paraguay, Peru and the Democratic Republic of Congo). In all, over 6,000 young people have taken part in this initiative.

Designed from waste but with surprising creativity and ingenuity, the creations demonstrate the commitment of young participants to a more just world for our planet and the people that inhabit it. Their toys are the result of deliberation on the impact that their own consumption has on the environment.

The toys will be on display at the Montreal Biodome until March 16, 2012.

André Sauvé launches the 20th International Contest Featuring Toys Made from Reused Materials (ICFT)

MONTREAL, Nov. 30, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ – André Sauvé will unveil the creations and winners of the Oxfam-Quebec 20th International Contest Featuring Toys Made from Reused Materials on Saturday, December 3, at the Montreal Biodome.
Over 200 toys have been collected from 10 countries (Canada, Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, United States, Haiti, Honduras, Paraguay, Peru and the Democratic Republic of Congo). In all, over 6,000 young people have taken part in this initiative.

“I visited several schools in Burkina Faso to collect toys made by children for the contest. These are wonderful teaching tools for raising awareness about environmental issues. And although we visited schools of some very disadvantaged children the emotion that was aroused was never pity. On the contrary, the memories I have retained of these encounters is a tireless determination to learn and to stand tall being taught”, reports André Sauvé, ambassador of Oxfam-Quebec upon returning from Burkina Faso.

Designed from waste but with surprising creativity and ingenuity, the creations demonstrate the commitment of young participants to a more just world for our planet and the people that inhabit it. Their toys are the result of deliberation on the impact that their own consumption has on the environment.
